Working Principle of Pressure Reducing Valve

A pressure reducing valve lowers the inlet pressure to a required outlet pressure and maintains a stable outlet pressure by throttling the flow through its opening and closing components.

Upon delivery, the adjusting spring of the valve is in an uncompressed state, with both the main disc and auxiliary disc closed. During operation, the adjusting screw is turned clockwise to compress the adjusting spring, causing the diaphragm to push open the auxiliary disc. The medium then flows from orifice a, through the auxiliary seat, into orifice b, and enters the upper chamber of the piston. Under the pressure of the medium, the piston moves downward, pushing the main disc away from the main seat and allowing the medium to flow toward the valve outlet. Pressure relief valve

Simultaneously, the medium enters the lower chamber of the diaphragm through orifice c. If the outlet pressure exceeds the set pressure, it pushes the diaphragm upward, compressing the adjusting spring. As a result, the auxiliary disc moves toward the closed position, reducing the flow of medium into the upper chamber of the piston and lowering the pressure there. The main disc, under the force of the main disc spring, moves downward, reducing the clearance between the main disc and the main seat. This decreases the medium flow, causing the outlet pressure to drop until a new equilibrium is achieved. Pressure relief valve

 

Conversely, if the outlet pressure falls below the set pressure, the clearance between the main disc and the main seat increases, allowing more medium to flow. This raises the outlet pressure until a new equilibrium is reached.
