Solenoid valve specification

2010-11-11

I've got a custom process(on an assembly line) in which I need an air powered component to turn 'on' after receiving a signal from a sensor. For this application I'll need a 2-way solenoid valve, of course, but I don't know what Cv value I require. I know the Temp. of the air, the Inlet Pressure(the pressure that will lead into the solenoid valve), the Specific Gravity of air, and the Flow Rate I require to operate my air powered component, but I don't know the pressure drop. Is this the pressure drop across the solenoid valve? For picking out the correct solenoide valve you will need everything you need to pick out a larger automatic/electric valve, plus a bit more that needs a solenoid technical/commercial valve specialist to evaluate. The pressure drop in that case is the allowable pressure drop across the valve; in other words, is there a minimum pressure that your application requires in order to function? If not, the rule of thumb on that site suggests use 10% of your inlet as the allowable pressure drop.
